Beaver Colony update

The below communication has been distributed to our Beaver parent community and all members of the 1st Egham (United Church of Egham) Scout Group executive committee.

Dear Parent,

I am writing to you to inform you that Karen Robson, the 1st Egham Beaver Scout Leader, has announced she would like to take a sabbatical from Scouting, with immediate effect.

Whilst Karen takes some time out, we do not want our Beaver Colony to suffer. To that end, Michaela Keferova (one of our Assistant Cub Scout Leaders), has volunteered to step in as interim Beaver Scout Leader. Whilst Michaela takes the reins, the District Leadership team will do what they can to support her, but can only do so temporarily since they have their own colonies to run. I would, therefore, be most appreciative if any parents who are able to offer any assistance each week, contact our Acting Group Scout Leader (Andy Sainsbury-Brown).

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours in Scouting

John Neale
Chairman, 1st Egham (United Church of Egham) Scout Group

Active Kids Vouchers

Just a very quick update to say an enormous thank you to the friends and family of 1st Egham in collecting a fantastic

5,874 VOUCHERS

The leaders are reviewing the catalogue of goods that are available and we’ll make some early decisions about what we get – any surplus will then be banked for next year!

An enormous thank you to everyone supporting 1st Egham – it makes all the difference.

District Camp Information

District Camp is now less than one week away, so here’s the definitive information all parents need to know.

Dropping off your Cub

All Cubs should arrive on Friday 28th June between 18:00-19:00 in FULL UNIFORM.

Cubs are to be dropped off at Walking Bottom car park, Peaslake, GU5 9RR. (map)

On arrival at the parking site, please follow the instructions of the parking marshals.
Kit will be transported to the camp-site by vehicle for the Cubs.
Once all of 1st Egham is present, we’ll walk up to the camp site (a 10 minute stroll).

Collecting your Cub

Cubs should be collected from Walking Bottom car park on Sunday 30th June between 14:00 – 15:00.

Activities during the weekend

Come on – you don’t think we’re going to tell you beforehand do you!

Money

There’ll be a “tuck shop” open over the weekend, so we’ll leave it to your discretion how much they have on them. (Please do spare a thought for the leaders – if the Cubs are pumped full of sugar, they’re more of a handful!)

Kit

All activities will go ahead no matter what the weather (unless it’s deemed dangerous).
Also, there’s a high likelihood of getting muddy / dirty – so leave any designer clothing at home!

For what to put in your Cubs kit bag, please refer to our “Camping Kit List” page.

Permissions Form(s)

If you’ve not already completed a permission slip – please emal firsteghamcubs@aol.co.uk to get a copy which must be handed in when dropping off your Cub.

If no permission form has been completed, you will be asked to take your Cub home.

SCRAM Reminder

As SCRAM approaches fast, here are a few additional details:

  • Arrival Time: Cubs to arrive no later than 09:30.
  • Departure Time: Closing Ceremony will take place at 16:45. Cubs can be collected from site from 17:00 onwards
  • All Cubs to arrive in FULL UNIFORM including scarf, without exception
  • Cubs to wear trainers (that could get ruined!)
  • Pack a waterproof jacket – there’ll be a tent where items can be stored
  • Cubs MUST bring a water bottle
  • Cubs must bring a PACKED LUNCH
  • NO ELECTRONICS, MOBILE PHONES OR ITEMS OF VALUE
  • No money will be required as there’ll be nothing to spend it on!

Please be aware, there will be hundreds of Cubs on-site: we cannot make any promises that items that are lost or misplaced will be traceable or will be returned. Hence, if you’d rather not lose it, leave it at home.

The nearest pointer to the whereabouts of Cranleigh Showground is as follows:

http://goo.gl/maps/WlSsX

I am told that the Showground is quite well sign-posted, however, I have copied the following from another web source:

“By car it is most easily reached from the A281 Guildford to Horsham road or the A24 Dorking to Horsham road. From the M25 leave at J9 (Leatherhead), follow the A24 southbound, then the A29, the B2126 at Ockley and then the B2127.”

If you have a Sat Nav, the best postcode reference I have is GU6 7DW.

If you need any more information, please leave a question here and we’ll put up the information we have!

7th June – Parents’ Evening Approaches

A less than subtle reminder that this coming Friday, 7th June, is

P A R E N T S   E V E N I N G

We’ll have some games to play, some words from the District Executive, along with a picture wall display of what your Cubs have been up to over the last 12 months.

7pm start – 8:30 pm finish

*** SEE YOU ALL THERE ***
