Our section leadership teams are entirely made up of volunteers! All adult leaders have regular training after passing the mandatory CRB and background checks, and there is always at least one adult present who is first aid qualified.
Group Scout Leader: Ivan Harknett
Ivan took on the role of Group Scout Leader in 2013, to oversee the activities of all the youth sections, support the uniformed leaders and to liaise between the uniform sections of the Group and the Group Executive.
Prior to taking on the role of GSL, Ivan was an Assistant Cub Scout Leader (better known to our Scouts as “Shere Khan”). As GSL, Ivan is active in attending section meetings wherever possible, helping out at events and functions,organising Group wide events and representing our Group at District and County meetings. From originally intending to be an Occasional Helper, Ivan has become fully involved in the ongoing development and growth of 1st Egham Scout Group.
BEAVER COLONY
Beaver Scout Leader: Michaela (Kanga)
Assistant Beaver Scout Leaders: Tom (Tigger)
Section Assistants: Lizzie (Bat)
Kanga moved from being one of our Assistant Cub Scout Leaders to being our Beaver Scout leader in late 2013. Kanga was a Scout until her teens at home in the Czech Republic, and brings a wealth of enthusiasm, knowledge and fun to the Beaver colony meetings. Her evenings combine fun and games with constructive educational activities to ensure our Beavers actively achieve their badges.
Tom is our newest recruit as Assistant Beaver Scout Leader, and brings another bundle of energy and enthusiasm to our Tuesday meetings. And lastly our Section Assistants, who herald from the fine educational establishment atop Egham Hill, provide invaluable support to our Group.
CUB PACK
Cub Scout Leaders: Alistair (King Louis)
Assistant Cub Scout Leaders: Sophie (Baloo)
King Louis took the reins as leader of the Cub Pack when our Akela took a break to have a child. King Louis brings a bundle of energy to Cub pack meetings (and an ear splitting whistle when required) and has been at the helm for over 2 years. Baloo has been with our Group for 6 years, having been enticed to join the Group by Akela when they worked together. Baloo brings her limitless enthusiasm to our Cub pack each week and to Scout section meetings when her diary allows her to.
SCOUT TROOP
Scout Leaders: Alan Robson (Skip) & Phil Robson (Bagheera)
Assistant Scout Leaders: Andrew (Commander), Alec, Lizzie (Bat), Sophie (Baloo)
Section Assistants: Michaela, Charley, Dan
Bagheera has been pivotal in getting 1st Egham Scout Troop started, initially with Karen (Tree Frog) and more recently the Commander. Started most recently in November 2015, the Scout section is flourishing and our busy Cub Pack will soon mean Scouts is burgeoning with young people. Bagheera recently elected to still be actively involved but not lead the section each week and Alan (Skip) stepped in and is running the Section.
Skip and Bagheera have a great team around them, including Bat and Baloo from our Beavers and Cubs sections respectively, Alec and the Commander and some invaluable assistants from Royal Holloway.
OCCASIONAL AND PARENT HELPERS
1st Egham Scout Group are fortunate to have a great supporting network of Occasional Helpers and Parent volunteers, without whom, the Group would struggle to run week on week.
